This marvelous bulbous handled button or boot hook is created in gorgeous sterling silver with a lovely Victorian Art Nouveau pattern.  Button hooks were used to assist with closing buttons through the button hole, corsets and of course, boots and shoes.  This beautiful hook was manufactured by Cocks and Bettridge in 1883 in Birmingham, England.  The hook is made of steel.  Hallmarks ae:  Hook=English made steel, Handle=C & B for Cocks & Bettridge, Anchor=Birmingham, England, Lion Passant=english sterling, i=date of 1883.  Measurements of this fabulous creation are:  Length from tip to end=9 inches, Width of handle at widest=1-1/8 inches, Depth of handle from front to back=7/8 inches.  This marvelous button or boot hook has been well cared for, gently used and is in good antique condition.  The hook portion has some darkened areas and is made of English steel.  The handle portion has one loss approximately 1/8 inch by 1/8 inch, but it does not diminish the beauty of this lovely piece.  There is also a number of nicks on the handle surface, commensurate with age and use.  It is the perfect addition to your dressing table collection, particularly if you like the Victorian, Art Nouveau style.
