Original Xbox v1.0-1.6 Motherboard CPU / Clock Capacitor Replacement Repair Kits
Some types of CPU capacitors on Xbox motherboards can fail and cause major issues like crashes, video quality degradation, or a no power condition. Replacing them can typically fix these issues and is also recommended as a preventive measure to keep your console running well in the long term.
Clock capacitors are also highly prone to failure on most Xbox motherboards and can cause significant damage to nearby components and traces.
Our kits are a major upgrade over the stock capacitors and include high grade Japanese capacitors from Panasonic and Nichicon.
Do you need to replace your Xbox CPU capacitors?
- v1.0-1.1 motherboards use 3-5 silver or green 1500uF 6.3V capacitors which can fail on occasion, replacement is recommended.
- v1.2-1.6 motherboards typically use 3-5 black Nichicon 3300uF 6.3V capacitors which have extremely high failure rates, replacement is highly recommended.
- Some late production motherboards come with purple Rubycon 3300uF 6.3V capacitors which typically don't require replacement.
Do you need to replace your Xbox clock capacitor?
- v1.0-1.5 motherboards use a clock capacitor that fails on nearly all consoles and leaks, potentially causing damage to components and traces on the motherboard. Removal/replacement is highly recommended.
- v1.6 motherboards use a better clock capacitor, but failures are becoming more common and can cause significant damage to essential components on the board. This capacitor can't just be removed as the system requires it to function, replacement is recommended.
