Original hand-painted antique animated slip slide for a Magic Lantern made around 1870 to 1890. Featuring a man falling from a tree while trying to get fruit. Its size is approx. 18 cm by 10 cm (7" by 4 1/2")

These double glass slides were popular mainly as animated interludes to fixed slides during a Magic Lantern show.

The slide was manually animated by the projectionist or an assistant live during the show. As the slip slide was moved or changed between two scenes using a single Magic Lantern projector, they provided a simpler and cheaper alternative to expensive mechanical, or twin (or triple) projector dissolve slides.

Some slip slides featured landscapes and exotic themes but many were humorous and poked fun at people and social pretentions of the time,  generating lots of laughter.
