We offer a ceramic napkin sculpture crafted in 1983 by the ceramic artists William “Bill” Wilhelmi and David Starr Chapman. The sculpture is glazed in white and hand inscribed on the base with a five pointed Star , ‘83 and W.

The sculpture weighs 1 pound 9.1 ounces and measures 8 1/4” in length and 4” in width with a height of 1 1/2”.

The ceramic sculpture of a folded napkin is presented in very good vintage condition.


Provenance

David Starr Chapman, American (1958-2023)

Raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, David would tell stories of spending his summers at his grandparents home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In 1964 Elizabeth Taylor moved next door when Richard Burton was filming Night of the Iguana and she would make grilled cheese sandwiches for David and his brother. David later studied ceramics under Bill Wilhelmi in the 1970s and collaborated on many pieces with him. David’s artwork included ceramics, sculpture and silk screening. Many of his ceramics were signed with a five point star flanked by D and C.
