What is Alpha-GPC?

Alpha-GPC (A-GPC) is a natural choline compound found in the brain.  A-GPC is a choline-containing phospholipid.  When ingested, A-GPC is rapidly absorbed and easily crosses the blood-brain barrier.  It is metabolized into Choline and Glycerol-1-Phosphate.  Choline is a precursor of Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in memory, attention, and skeletal muscle contraction.  Glycerol-1-Phosphate is used to support cellular membranes.

Alpha-GPC is a chemical released when a fatty acid found in plants breaks down.  In some countries A-GPC is used as medicine.

In Europe, A-GPC is a prescription medication for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.  In the United States A-GPC is only available as a dietary supplement, mostly in products promoted to improve memory.

Alpha-GPC is also known by many names.  Here are some of them:

What is Alpha-GPC 50%?  A-GPC is made up of 50% Alpha Glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline, 48% Dicalcium Phosphate Dihydrate and 2% Silicon Dioxide.
