A rare volume to find in any condition!
Rebound in a plain blue cloth binding by the Free Public Library of New Haven, Connecticut. Binding shows some wear, including rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, wear to the joints, general wear around the extremities including light bumping the corners, and some rubbing and soiling to the page edges. Otherwise this is an attractive antique volume! The gilt title lettering on the spine displays nicely from the shelf.
Internally, this volume is in good shape overall. Both boards remain firmly attached to the binding. Frontispiece illustration and title page are detached, however the rest of the page groupings are firmly attached to the binding. Sturdy and square overall! This is an ex-library volume with bookplates and library markings visible to the front and rear endpapers and fly pages, as well as the title page and copyright page. Otherwise this volume is clean and free from signatures and inscriptions.
The text block of this volume is in good shape overall. Pages shows typical age-related toning as well as soiling and foxing scattered throughout. Pages 169-172 and 295-296 show edge tearing that cuts into the text block itself, but does not affect the readability of the text. Additionally there are a few other instances of minor edge tears and light chipping in the margin, but these do not affect the readability of the text either. Despite these blemishes, the text block remains well-preserved and is perfectly readable throughout!
Nicely illustrated throughout with engravings in the text, full page plates and a map in the back.
