1936 HARDY SPLIT CANE FISHING ROD G.C. VANDERVELL PALAKONA 13ft 3 piece SALMON FLY ROD
In very good condition. All joints firm and tight no play, assembles ok, all bindings there nothing missing or damaged, and a straight rod, A lovely rod and was most likely a rod built as a special to a pattern for G.C. Vandervell, and thus similar rods named as such, or perhaps just a one off. A long rod at 13 ft. It has a serial number E38286 which dates it to circa 1936. It comes with its alluminium spanner to tighten the reel mount lock. It's a three piece rod with a spare tip, all connectors featuring lockfast joints. It has a screw grip reel fitting as mentioned. It has an agate line ring to the initial ring and to one tip end. A gold medal rod. It comes with its original rod bag with wear, and its adjusting spanner for the reel fixing.

A little provenance for the rod, an auction lot appeared locally to the rod seven years ago for a taxiderm rainbow trout caught by a G.C. Vandervell "A mid-20th century taxidermy Rainbow trout (Oncorchynchus mykiss), mounted within a glazed display case and bearing a label "Caught river Kennet, 2nd June 1956 by G.C. Vandervell", with further Edw Gerrard & Sons label verso, w.26 d.15 h.31cm." .... certainly the same person.
This is one of three nice quality vintage split cane fishing rods, that I have put on Ebay this weekend, all from the same private clearance.
