This is a Carvin/Kiesel HB5 Wide pickup - MusicMan style 5-string humbucker

Large diameter AlNiCo 5 magnets, 3/4” (19mm) pole piece spacing.

This pickup is mostly reserved for Bridge position due to its wide spacing. This can be used in Lakland 5-string basses or custom applications.

If you’re feeling saucy, this pickup would be an excellent choice if you were to build a home-brew Old Smoothie style Stingray out of a Sterling by MusicMan SUB bass, as had been done by LowEnd Lobster on YouTube (no connection or relation). You’d need a 19mm-spaced 5-string pickup for an Old Smoothie 4-string build.

Carvin has been offering this pickup for decades, and Kiesel still uses this pickup today.

I actually had this pickup in a dual-mm bass, this pickup in the bridge position and an HB5 Narrow pickup (also for sale) in the neck position.

4-wire cable + shield

Note how beautiful the pole piece shielding is wrapped on the underside of the pickup; a stainless steel wire wrapped figure-8 around every pole piece. No other manufacturer does this, not Nordstrand, not Aguilar…this is a high-quality pickup for sure, Made in USA.

Very clear vintage voicing, brilliant top-end and good bass response.

I preferred to wire it in the Lakland-style; bridge coil/parallel/neck coil using a 3-position switch

I’ve had this pickup for about 15 years and in 2 different basses. It’s been around the block a few times and is still going strong.

Comes with paperwork from Carvin with wiring instructions and routing size for custom installations.

Each coil measures 3.5k ohms.

In Parallel, the pickup measures 1.8k ohms

In Series, the pickup measures 7.2k ohms
