Valentine was launched in 1957 and was part of a wave of similar titles such as Marilyn, Mirabelle, Roxy, Romeo and Serenade. They featured a unique combination of romance, comic strip stories and pop music. With its distinctive blue livery and amazing artwork, Valentine quickly became a runaway success. At its peak it was selling 400,000 copies each week and eventually all its major competitors were taken over and merged into one title : Valentine
