Wonderful Rare Antique French Toile de Beautiran print. 

Nothing I love more than when a textile comes with a bit of its history. 

This piece was part of a bed room set coming from a house in the Bordeaux region where the Beautiran manufacture was located. 

It is hand quilted, hand sewn with scalloped detail at bottom. Quilted to back fabric no fill.  The print itself I am not sure of the name. Absolutely delightful print packed with so much wonderful imagery! You really have to study it to see even detail. I love the contrast between the larger images and the smaller subtly tucked in the foreground. The mix of farm and wild animals, I adore the little pig that looks like it is talking to the duck, The man presenting a nest full of baby birds,  small thatched barn, bunnies, then there is the small scale background addition of a large sailing boat with what looks like a soldier on horseback. So so many details. I wish I know the story that inspired it all.  Copper plate printed on cotton in late 18th to early 19th century. The red color has faded to a sort of dusty rose. Aged ground with a bit of a grey hue.  You can see the original red color in last photo of the scalloped edge where there must have been a trim. The print continues part-way up on the back the rest is a creamy cotton lining.   Wonderful piece to use as small valence or lovely for pillows or many other creative sewing, home decor  or craft projects.  Wonderful collectable piece would be great framed too! 

 

Condition: Very good for age and use!  Some small holes on printed side and a few stitches that are broken here and there. No notable marks or stains that caught my eye.  No notable marks or stains that caught my eye.
