Opening the premium hard case is an experience out of the gate - to say the sleek, clean Black finish, matching headstock, and white pearl pickguard against the blacked-out hardware and ebony fretboard are eye-catching would be an understatement. Despite its traditional T-style appearance, this extended range axe is supremely comfortable to play with the neck-through construction allowing for a nicely contoured neck heel and body. It also has a longer scale length so you can get extra low with baritone strings while maintaining a tight response under the fingers. Lastly, the guitar features Carpenter's signature versions of the renowned Fishman Fluence active humbuckers, which have become known for their extreme clarity both clean and under heavy distortion, including one ingeniously placed in the middle position instead of the traditional neck slot for a very unique tone that has to experienced in person. They retain string definition and high-end punch along with a tight low-end boom all the way down to the lowest note. While based on a traditional shape, the SCT-607B is anything but old-school with its 7-string, 27” baritone scale and neck-thru-body construction. It features a comfortable alder body and a three-piece maple neck, with an unadorned Macassar ebony fingerboard with 24 extra-jumbo frets. Its sound comes from a set of Stephen’s own signature Fishman Fluence pickups, with a ceramic pickup in the bridge and an alnico pickup in the middle position. These pickups have two voices, selectable with a push-pull volume control. Voice 1 (Modern Active) is Stephen’s midrange tweak on the original modern Fluence sound; Voice 2 (Modern Passive Attack) is Stephen’s custom voicing with some tone and gain tweaks to give it extra heat and edge.
