    • Class EF58 Electric What is Locomotive No. 61?
    The EF58 class electric locomotive No. 61 was manufactured by Hitachi Ltd. in 1953 as a locomotive exclusively for pulling call-up trains and was called the Royal Engine.
    It differs from other EF58 class locomotives by the decorative belt installed from the front to the sides and the national flag hoisting device.
    It pulled call-up trains more than 90 times between 1953 and 2001.
    From the viewpoint of preventing the deterioration of electrical components, it was also used for regular work until around the late 1965s, and even after it was taken over by East Japan Railway (JR East), it was active in various event trains, etc.
    From 30 October 2022 (2022), the 150th anniversary of the railway, a permanent exhibition will be held at the Railway Museum in Omiya City, Saitama Prefecture, where you will be able to see it more easily.
