A great find from a local New England estate!

This scarce antique volume is over 158 years old!

See our other auctions for more volumes in this set!

A rare volume to find in any condition!  1st edition.  Contemporary half-calf bindings with marbled boards and marbled page edges.  Ex-library.

Original binding is in good shape overall!  The leather is dry and has started to flake due to age, and leaves residue when placed on a white surface.  The boards and spine show wear including a library catalog number written on the spine, rubbing and light soiling, moderate wear to the joints, general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and spine extremes, and light rubbing to the page edges.  Otherwise sound!  The gilt lettering to the spine displays nicely from the shelf.  A well preserved antique volume overall!

Internally this volume is in GOOD condition overall.  Both boards and all page groupings remain attached to the binding.  Note that this is an ex-library volume with bookplates and library markings visible to the front and rear endpapers and fly pages, the tile page and copyright page, and likely on a few pages throughout the text block.  Otherwise this volume is clean and free from signatures and inscriptions.

The text block itself is in GOOD shape as well.  Quite clean throughout!  In general, pages show light toning typical of age, as well as some light soiling and foxing scattered throughout, and perhaps some instances of light edge wear.  Otherwise this volume is free from rips, tears, writing and markings.  Perfectly readable throughout!

Illustrated throughout with steel portrait engravings and maps.  All illustrations and maps are present.

Make sure to see the additional photos below for a thorough look through this volume.

624 pages with 50 pages of additional material and an index in back.

Measures approximately 10 inches tall by 6 3/4 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches thick.

A perfect addition to any fine collection or a wonderful gift for someone special!
