These 104AB floor standing speakers were KEF’s first REFERENCE speaker and soon became a classic. The drivers used were the famous T27 tweeter a B200 bass midrange and a passive B139 that had no magnet so it worked as a reflex to extend the bass of the B200. The AB crossover was later added to increase the handling capacity to 100W RMS which incorporated a fuse to protect the T27 from damage.

I purchased these in the 1970s when Hi-Fi was booming and British Speakers like KEF, B&W, QUAD, CELESTION & WHARFEDALE were the ones to hear. Working in London’s Tottenham court road, I had the opportunity to listen to many of these brands and the 104AB really was something special for its time.

Mine have been stored in the loft and been unused for 10 years with some marks and scratches mainly during a few house moves. The white colour has faded somewhat over the years, more so with one. The only damage to the drivers is a mark on a B139 which was done by my German Shepherd chasing the cat 😌and a slight bubble on the B200 but it appears only to be cosmetic, otherwise all drivers look very good for their age. A serial number plate is missing from one of the speakers and a very slight crack in the wood (easily filled) has appeared near one of the tweeters which can be seen in the many photos.

I’ve just connected these to my current amplifier and they still work/sound good but because they are now 50 years old, there is no guarantee how long the drivers will last so please take that into consideration BEFORE buying as STRICTLY NO RETURN!!

They are heavy speakers so COLLECTION ONLY from the Lincoln area (Billinghay).
