    • train. The ED76-550 class is an electric locomotive converted from the ED76-500 class, and was introduced in 1989.
    It has a distinctive appearance with a grey and white belt wrapped around the hem of the car body, and due to its length, it was used to tow mainly Twilight Express trains, such as Kaikyo, Hokutosei and Elm.
    In 1999, when towing a train to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Hakodate Main Line electrification, it was restored to the same red No. 2 colour scheme as the original 500s, and in 2001 it was retired with its original appearance. It was retired in 2001.
