Came out of a daily light use iMac fully working. Never baked to reflow failures.
Donor iMac was a 2011 iMac 2.7 GHz i5 27". Make sure replace exact same card with matching heat sink. Heat sink are profiled to fit over this exact card. Wrong heat sink can smash the components. I believe same card is also used in 2011 21.5" iMac 2.7Ghz i5 and 2.8GHz. There are different heat sink options depend on GPU cards and exact one must be used
Proper installation is required to
- Avoid squeezing and smash components with wrong heat sink
- Avoid heat sink contact to metal parts of the card
- Proper thermal paste on components
- MX-5 on GPU die. No liquid metal
- K5-Pro non conductive thermal paste on inductors/VRAM
Best to have the card to be replaced in hand to compare carefully. Also consult everymac database to confirm GPU model #.
Does not come with the X mounting bracket in the rear. Must reuse existing X bracket with your original AMD GPU card. These X bracket's bolt holes are beveled so the screw sinks in deeper to avoid contact with logic board surface causing shorts.
