Staffordshire American Historical Dark Blue and White Transfer Soup Bowl, "America and Independence or States", "Men Fishing", by James and Ralph Clews, c. 1820 - 1835. This beautiful dark blue soup bowl is one of the most attractive of all of the Dark Blue Historical Staffordshire views. This bowl has the names of the first fifteen states around the perimeter.  The bowl has an insert of George Washington and America and Independence. This has the "Men Fishing" as the center transfer.  This soup bowl is listed in "Historical Staffordshire An Illustrated Check-List" by David and Linda Arman, where an 10 1/2" plate booked for $195 -215, back in 1974. This example has a deep dark blue transfer with hardly a scratch to the surface.  There is an impressed mark on the back that reads, "CLEWS WARRANTED STAFFORDSHIRE."

CONDITION:  The condition is good with a long tight hairline off the rim that travels into the center of the bowl.  Otherwise there is minimal roughness and no damage.  The hairline can only be seen from the back.
