This scarce antique volume is over 164 years old!
Originally published in London 1859, this is an early American edition. Ex-library.
A rare volume to find in any condition! Contemporary cloth library cover over original publisher binding. Exterior shows some wear as pictured, including a library catalog sticker pasted to the spine, some rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, wear to the joints, general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and spine extremes, and some rubbing, soiling and spotting to the page edges. Otherwise this is an attractive, well-preserved antique volume!
Internally, this volume is in good shape overall. Both boards and all page groupings remain firmly attached to the binding. This is an ex-library volume with bookplates and library markings visible to the front and rear endpapers and fly pages, as well as the title page and copyright page. Otherwise this volume is clean and free from signatures and inscriptions.
The text block of this volume is clean overall. There is some wear in the introductory memoir and first chapter including moderate soiling, corner creasing, page wrinkling and some slight staining and edge tearing in the margin. Despite this wear, the text block remains unaffected. Other wear includes typical age-related toning to the pages, as well as some light foxing and soiling scattered throughout, and some general light edge wear, but otherwise this volume is clean and perfectly readable throughout!
