CAMERA SPECIFICATIONS

o capable of FULL manual control, ie: manual focus, f-stop setting and shutter speed setting

o 14 shutter speeds manually selectable on dial: 1/2000 second  //  1/1000  //  1/500  //  1/250  //  1/125  //  1/60  //
1/30  //  1/15  //  1/8  //  1/4  // 1/2  //  1 second  --  plus X-synch & B settings
and "OFF" setting
(note: X-synch sets shutter speed to 1/90 second, you can also manually set the shutter to slower speeds - for non-Yashica,
non-dedicated electronic flash units)

o automatic exposure (AE), dial-selected: three separate CPU / computer-controlled modes which retain operator-controlled manual lens focus
(note: shutter speeds in AE mode range from 16 seconds up to 1/2000 second - CPU controlled)

o in automatic exposure mode, sensor reads DX code on film canister & sets CPU to correct film speed (ISO 50 to 3200)
(set f-stop manually at smallest f-stop setting  when in AE mode - ie: @ f 16 for the 50mm f1.9 lens that this camera comes with.)

o viewfinder: 92% picture area coverage, .82 magnification (w/ 50mm lens)

o focusing, 3 tools in viewfinder: horizontal line split-image rangefinder, microprism collar, outer matte field

o metering system: Through The Lens (TTL) full-aperture center-weighted system controlled by
Silicon Photo Diode (SPD) cells

o metering range: EV 2-19

o exposure data panel visible in viewfinder

o backlight / exposure compensation button on left side of lens =  + 1.5 EV adjustment range

o 10-second self-timer with LED indicator (see video in this listing)

o electronic CPU / computer-controlled vertical-travel focal plane metal shutter

o electromagnetic (EM) shutter release with threaded shutter release socket to left
of eyepiece for EM release attachment or remote control attachment
(caution: do not use a traditional mechanical cable release as it will damage this
socket and associated electronic circuitry)

o built-in motor drive, advances film to first photo when loading a new roll of film, rewind is manual

o powered by four AAA batteries - a definite plus as these are easily found almost anywhere you go!

recommendation: use rechargeable high-output AAA rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni MH) batteries such as
Panasonic Eneloop (or similar): they put put approx. 800 mAh (milliamp/hour). The Panasonic Eneloop and will last 2100 + recharges.
These are what we use in our film & digital cameras and other battery powered devices.

CAMERA DIMENSIONS - W x H x D:

Carl Zeiss Optik / Yashica background & history:

The Yashica Optical Company, Ltd. was founded in December 1949 in Nagano, Japan.
In 1973, Yashica began developing a new 35mm SLR camera jointly with the Carl Zeiss Aktiengesellschaft
(aka: Carl Zeiss AG, or just Zeiss) Optical Company of Germany to be sold under the Zeiss "Contax" name.
This "Project 130" camera remained "Top Secret" until it debuted as the "Contax RTS"
a year later to overwhelmingly rave reviews at the Photokina Photography World Fair held in Cologne,
Germany from the 27th of September to the 3rd of October 1974.

A new lens mount system also debuted with the Contax RTS: the Contax/Yashica (C/Y) bayonet mount,
For Yashica, their first C/Y mount camera was the FX-1 35mm SLR in 1975, the "ancestor" of this Yashica 107.

In 1983, the Kyocera (Kyoto Ceramics) Company acquired Yashica. Yashica / Kyocera continued their partnership with Zeiss,
jointly developing and manufacturing several series of lenses for them, including the AE series for the Zeiss Contax RTS camera and later the MM series.
These AE and MM series lenses bear the T* symbol for their proprietary multi-coating technology.

All Yashica 35mm SLR camera bodies (to include those with auto exposure program functions like this 107) with this C/Y lens mount from the FX-1 on can seamlessly use the full range of Zeiss C/Y lenses,
to include the AE series lenses, and retain 100% auto exposure functionality.

The Yashica range of lenses from this 1970s-1980s era included their top end premium series termed 'ML'
for multi-layered, (Yashica term for Multi-Coated). In contrast, the lower specification 'DSB' series had simpler
more economical to manufacture lens designs with single-layer coating and targeted the lower price,
entry-level segment of the consumer optics market.

Yashica ML lenses like the 50mm 1.9 prime on this camera have earned a well-deserved reputation for high quality.
Yashica already had a reputation for fine optics from its inception in 1949, However, it is from the early 1960s on
(with its optics supplier (later subsidiary), Tomioka Optical) that Yashica optical quality closed the gap with the
best European optical companies' products.

Yashica has also greatly benefitted their licensing and joint research/development/manufacturing relationship with
Zeiss and this is very evident in the Yashica ML series multi-coating technology, lens design and quality which
render superb resolution, color saturation, chromatic aberration control, and resultant high image quality.
