***********The AS 1700/01 automatic movement runs about a minute fast by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. The signature hack feature works perfectly as it should, which can be most clearly seen in pictures 12 through 17. Given that the movement runs a bit fast and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended.***********

This seldom seen vintage 1967 Glycine Airman Special has a matte black "-T- SWISS MADE -T-" signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows difficult to see age-related wear and discoloration.  The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue.  The all stainless steel bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally once the bezel lock (bottom crown) has been unscrewed, shows wear and some enamel paint loss.  The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation.  The outer edge of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL   AUTOMATIC   WATERPROOF   INCABLOC   SWISS" with "PAT 314.050" and "871477" stamped along the inner edge.  As clearly seen in the pictures these stampings have been worn down over time.  The serial number corresponds to 1967.  The crystal, which I believe is original, needs to be replaced as it shows fracturing.  In my humble opinion the damage is not nearly as pronounced in person.

While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale considering that the case back on this watch requires a press to be properly secured I won't be removing it.  The AS 1700/01 automatic movement with hack and semi-quickset date features runs strong, albeit a bit fast, and the date wheel rolls over at 12 am.  The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 21 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached.  The hack feature works perfectly as it should when the non-screwdown cross-hatched crown is pulled out.  When this is done the seconds hand will continue moving until it gets to the minute's end (12 o'clock).  The hack feature functionality can be clearly seen in pictures 12 through 17.  Once the crown is pushed back in the seconds hand will resume moving.  After recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions the movement ran about a minute fast by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve periodThe crown turns with some tension when setting the time and when being wound.  Given that the movement runs a bit fast and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended.

This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs.  Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm.  Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10 mm.  This watch comes on a NOS khaki NATO strap that complements the dial and patina beautifully.

Given that the movement runs a bit fast and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended.  As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.  Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.  Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.

Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given.  And please study the 23 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
