This seldom seen vintage 1970's Wittnauer has a pristine orange "JAPAN" signed dial and the original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching butterscotch hue. The vibrant orange acrylic bezel, which does not rotate likely due to gunk buildup underneath, complements the dial beautifully. The heavy duty all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original finish, shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL" while the inside of the case back is stamped "WITTNAUER WATCH CO." followed by "BRITISH CROWN COLONY,""HONG KONG,""STAINLESS STEEL" and "1002-W100." The crystal shows scratching.

The 17 jewels unadjusted Japan "WITTNAUER WATCH CO.,""W100" and "698 N" stamped automatic movement with quickset date function is clean and keeps accurate time with the date rolling over automatically at 12 am and the day wheel rolling over at approximately 1 am. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pulling out the sharply threaded, non-screwdown "W" signed crown to the first position and then turning it counterclockwise until the desired date has been reached. The quickset day function works by manually rolling over a new day and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between 11 pm and 1 am until the desired day has been reached. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm.

Given the vintage nature of this watch and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended.
