ANTIQUE OIL LAMP SILVER PLATED MESSENGERS 54 CP BURNER & LAMP BASE
The silver plating in nice condition but the burner is missing part of its inside workings, the adjuster on the side still works, the cog is good, as there was a part of the original cam inside it and that goes up and down as the knob is turned, so the teeth are good, and that cam can be easily removed but I've left it in place. The burner is a " MESSENGERS 54 CP ANNULAR " , and as mentioned the silver plating seems very good, and the gallery lifter mechanism works well. Would be worth perhaps using the innards from a 54 cp brass burner to restore this, as it's all well worth doing as silver plated Messengers oil lamps with good silver plating are pretty scarce now. It's a centre draught type burner, the air being drawn up through the aperture just beneath the font. The lamp sits straight and is strong, but I've noticed that there's a few marks on a couple of those finger type plated supports that are under the font through which that air passes. Please look at the images. The lamp Measuring approx 12 high overall x 7 wide at the reservoir / font, all in inches. It's being sold as I found it only partly polished, but the whole thing would polish up beautifully with some silver polish.
