William F. Piper was from Newquay and is best known for his coastal views and seascapes - so this inland painting is an unusual find. Biographical detail on Piper is hard to locate however he is known to have become a member of the St Ives Art Society in 1950 and his works were included in the Society's prestigious touring exhibition that same year.  He exhibited quite extensively in Cornwall, particularly with St Ives Galleries and there are many auction records for his work.
