The RL 20 II Prostyler’s first appearance in public was in the
capable hands of Redline Factory Freestyle rider RL Osborn in the summer
of 1984. The bike was presented in the simple black, white, red, and
gray livery of its predecessor, the RL 20 Prostyler. However, aside from
its five-inch tall head tube and elliptical down tube, the RL 20 II had
benefitted from a complete design overhaul. Redline founder and chief
engineer Linn Kastan used his deep knowledge of Chromoly steel
construction to create something that “other brands would find “hard to
replicate.” Its fully wrapped head tube, tapered rear chain, seat stays,
an aggressive head tube angle and built-in rear standing platforms
ticked every box and projected the new model as the most advanced
freestyle model of the 1980s era. The RL 20 II was produced in the late
summer of 1984 at the Kawamura Sangyo factory in Kobe, Japan.
