Antique C. 1865 Civil War Era White Ironstone Armorial Platter Stag Crest


  • For your consideration is an interesting large oval ironstone platter
  • It was most likely custom made to represent heritage heraldry symbols, which was still fashionable among the wealthier Anglo-American families trough the 19th century
  • It features a crest depicting a stag head / bust in red
  • The skillfully elaborated border displays tree colors; orange, green and black, or as they are called in heraldry, tenne, vert and sable, each contributing a symbolical meaning: Orange for strength and endurance, green for hope and loyalty in love, black for constancy, a very strong combination all together
  • The platter bears an incised diamond shaped English Registry mark, which dates it to 1865, it could be from a Staffordshire pottery or other
  • A hand written number 4881 is also present. An old collection inventory sticker remains
  • All original

  • Measurements: Approx. 13" x 10.75" x 1"
  • Weighs about 2 lbs. 3 oz.

  • Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Partial surface crazing on top and bottom, some lines with discoloration, minor wear to the enameled border, a fleabite at the edge. All commensurate with age, no major issues
