This particular piece was made at the beginning of the collection which is No. 4 made in Ronneby , Sweden circa 1962. This is an example of Mid-century Modernist Art Glass design at its finest. The CATERPILLAR is crafted of hand blown full lead clear crystal with a segmented body in true Caterpillar form complete with two tentacles (filaments) on its head. The caterpillar is hand signed with a hand etched inscription in cursive that reads, "FM. Ronneby Sweden #4" The crystal Caterpillar is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks in the glass. The crystal sculpture measures 9.5" in length x 5.5 "height ,with is 2.25" at its widest and weighs a hefty 2lb. 10 oz. This is to remind the lovers of colored glass just how beautiful clear crystal can be. This fabulous Caterpillar is an early piece made by FM Ronneby Konstglas at their factory in Ronneby, and is a mix of Murano and Sweden art glass. The Marcolin brothers, masters of hand blown art glass, worked and trained under the best glass artisans on the Italian island of Murano, moved to Ronneby, Sweden, brought in some Italian relatives and friends from Murano, and created beautiful handmade glass in the 1960s.
