  • Located in Provins - France. Built in the XII century.

Aedes Ars The Cesar Tower is located in Provins (Seine et Marne, France) on the summit of the hill itself on which the villa is located. It offers stunning views of the Brie Plateau. A legend traces the origin of Provins to Roman times. Thus, following that legend, the great tower of Provins would have been built by Julio Cesar. In fact, this building was constructed in Century XII under the reign of Henri the Liberal (1152-1183). It can be affirmed that the Tower Cesar exists since 1137 because it is mentioned in a letter of Thibaud II where it designated the tower like limit of the fairs of Champagne. It has had multiple destinations; Has been a prison, a refuge from possible attacks, ... his essential role has been military and has had several names such as "The Tower of the King" "The Big Tower" and "Tower of the Prisoners." Then, in the fifteenth century, The English attempted to seize (and seize) the Tower of Provins and was battered. It was at the beginning of the seventeenth century that the mayor, François de Beaufort, decided to repair it and cover it. The base of the building is surrounded by a heavy masonry wall, added by the English after 1432, known under the disdainful name of "Pâté aux Anglia's". It has a square floor plan at its base, converted into octagonal at half height (it is the only "donjon" with this feature), flanked by four turrets. Inside, below, a large vaulted room served as a deposit for the intendencia. En the upper floor, Another room of the same dimensions but higher, called "room of the guards", were the centre of communication of the Tower. From there, the stairs go to the lower room, the governor's room and the round roads. Access to the dungeons where the prisoners were kept by narrow corridors that are inside the walls. Even today, the "Pate aux Anglia's" can be seen perfectly, like the guards' room, the governor's room and the other compartments.
