Presenting a stunning Mid Century vintage Australian Studio pottery jug masterfully hand thrown and signed "MD Ellis".
This impressively large example is believed to be an early example of Ellis pottery. The well-formed hand thrown vessel is stylishly decorated with impressed geometric shapes forming a band to the neck in a manner similar in nature to adornments found on Italian Bitossi pieces.
A luscious green and oxide brown drip glaze spills over the form, the layers of colour blending and combining to create a striking range of tones and random glaze effects.
Horizontal ribbing to the body adds a wonderfully tactile element to the design while a thick handle and well-formed pouring lip ensure this exquisite work of art is also wonderfully functional.
SIZE: This impressive piece stands approx 200mms tall, measures 140mms in diameter excluding the handle and 180mms in width including the handle.
WEIGHT: This substantial jug weighs 1.340 kgs.
CONDITION: This piece is presented in good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. This piece has been very well cared for and presents magnificently.
MARKS: This piece is beautifully signed in black brushed lettering "MD Ellis".
