Rolf Gjedsted (born on the 24th February 1947, died on the 18th July 2022[1]) was a Danish writer and visual artist.Rolf Gjedsted grew up in Vanløse and began drawing and writing at an early age. At the age of 13 he moved with his mother and stepfather to Vejle Idrætshøjskole, where the stepfather became the school principal. Here he was able to try various sports, including horse riding and martial arts, but at the same time he began to write poetry and paint.
He returned to the capital and attended the Sankt Annæ Gymnasium in a class with, among others, the actor Jesper Christensen and the musician Anders Koppel, played the guitar himself and was interested in new music, not least in The Doors, which he played in his role met as a musician and book reviewer in politics. Was a regular contributor to Superlove, a magazine about beat culture that ran for three years from 1968 to 1970. Worked for several years at DR with Jørgen Gustava Brandt and Uffe Harder and made radio programs about writers and painters, e.g. Degas, van Gogh, Gauguin, Lautreamont, Rimbaud, De Quincey, Poe and others. ... Editor of the Atlantis series, which dealt with alchemy and occult themes for the publisher Thaning & Appel. In collaboration with Ingolf Gabold as a composer for Danmarks Radio, he wrote two choral works: “Written in Sand” and “Atlantis”.
Married and had a son, Daniel, but soon became a single father. Soon after, at the age of 21, he published his first book: Englefronten. Through a relationship with Anne Wivel, he came into contact with several visual artists at the academy that Anne attended, including Niels Reumert, with whom he created two lithographic works: “A Wall of Fishes” and “Journey to America.” In collaboration with the painter Wilhelm Freddie and Per Kirkeby, who designed several of his book covers...
Lived with the painter Ulla Chemnitz for many years and worked on horses, Raku burnings, exhibitions and children's books.
Since the 1980s, in addition to his extensive writings, Rolf Gjedsted has increasingly expressed himself in fine art, painting, sculpture and pottery. He has exhibited several of these works and also carried out several decorative works, e.g. to the West Jutland Art Museum, the Finance Council, Friisberg & Partners and Skodsborg Sanatorium as well as Nyhavns Caféen Nyhavn 33 st. .
