Vintage AKAI Stereo System Rack Mounted
Bought this system new about 45 years ago 1979/1980. Not been played much in the last 30 years and not needed now - planning to downsize. But it still sounds great.
Comprising of :-
Akai Rack, robust steel frame on castors complete with handles to mount the separates
Akai Manual Turntable model AP-B10c . Belt driven. ( NB Research online, excellent reviews )
Akai Amplifier model AM-2250 ( research online, excellent reviews)
Akai Tape Deck model GXC-704D
There is one spare (unused) slot - for a tuner, sampler, or graphic equalizer etc. Akai separates quite often come up on ebay.
2 Wharfdale Denton 2 speakers. Teak Finish.
Its all working but there are some issues:-
- It is 45 years old, so it isn't in as new perfect condition. It has been used so it has some marks.
- The turntable dust cover hinges do not stay open or 'soft close' any more. (spring issue) [New hinges are available online].
- The tape deck, while it still plays tapes, does keeps stopping. It needs a service.
- To be fair the whole system could do with a service and clean internally to clear any gathered dust to get it to perform at its best.
Amazingly spares seem readily available on the net. belts, needles - such is the longevity of this equipment.
The build quality is pretty crude (solid state) by todays standards but, Im told, easy to repair work on etc.
That said it still sounds brilliant, it is raw and it crackles occasionally but plays vinyl LPs as they should sound.
Postage
Don't intend to post this - too big and too difficult to pack / protect. I'd rather the buyer see it first. Therefore collection only.
