CAPT. GRID-IRON was quarterback of the West Point football team and graduated in the top ten of his class. It can be said in his favor that he passed up an appointment to the U.S. Army War College for a conventional infantry command at the company level. It was this determination to be "where the action is" that brought him to the attention of the G.I. Joe organization.
"The other G.I. Joes were a bit put off by this West Pointer when he first showed up, but he turned out to be bearable to the point that nobody tried to 'lose' him on his first mission. In fact, if he would only stop trying so hard to be likeable and put a halt to his John Wayne (classic Hollywood tough guy) imitation, they might let him play quarterback at the annual G.I. Joe Fish Fry Football Game!"

Knowing his way around a football and being inclined to a life in the military, you can imagine how happy being appointed to West Point made Terrence Lydon. Being very good at what he does, the man easily made the West Point football team, quickly earning the quarterback position.  That's not all there is to Terrence though, oh no. Despite his rigorous athletic schedule, which went above and beyond the usual (albeit intense) training cadets at the Point undertake, Terrence graduated at the top of his class! With such credentials, Terrence could've gone anywhere.

As it turned out however, Terrence wanted to actually do something useful with all his military training, and turned down an appointment to the prestigious United States Army War College, instead taking a company-level infantry command post in order to 'be where the action is'.  This commitment to the military life, putting the needs of the Army above his own career, singled Terrence out for membership in an elite group sponsored jointly by the various armed forces: the Gi Joe team. Naturally, Terrence couldn't resist this opportunity to fight terrorism head-on. Joining the team in 1990, Terrence proved himself as a hand to hand combat expert, though he packs a variety of unconventional firepower in the field. From his customized football grenades to his modified shotgun to his bizarre rocket rifle, Terrence is ready to dish out plenty of pain. Most of Terrence's missions with Gi Joe were highly classified 'Special Missions' however, details of which have not yet been revealed to the public. In fact, the only documented action Terrence saw with the Joe team was during one of Cobra's many attacks on the Pit III!

In time, the Joes were deemed unnecessary, and the powers that be decided that conventional military forces could handle Cobra from that point on. In other words, the Gi Joe team suddenly had no need to exist, and as such was mothballed by the government - indefinitely.
