An original watercolour by well listed Northern Irish artist Sam McLarnon (1924-2012).

It is a view of the Blackcave Tunnel or 'Black Arch' which marks the start of the very scenic Antrim Coast Road near Larne. Note the two unusually shaped rocks adjacent to it which are also well known and form part of local legends.

Signed in full lower left.  Not dated, estimated to be 1980s.

Painted on watercolour paper and in excellent original condition.

Presente with a complementary coloured card mount within a wooden frame. Both the mount and the frame are in excellent, but not new, condition.

Glazed and ready to hang.

Measures 44 x 56cm including the frame, the visible painting only is 29.5 x 47cm.

Sam McLarnon was an artist and illustrator, best known for his watercolours depicting the Donegal and Antrim coastlines.  He was born in Larne and studied Art at Larne Technical College where his work earned him several awards. Though he qualified to teach art he went on to open a studio in Larne and exhibited his work there annually for more than 25 years.  He was a founder member of both the Larne Art Club and the Ulster Watercolour Society and a life member of Carnlough Art Club.  He is a well recognised Irish artist who has a strong auction record and his paintings are offered by a number of prestigious galleries.
