1883 NC & 1913P (1) NICKELS #2
FIRST ISSUE LIBERTY & BUFFALO NICKEL TYPES
This pair includes both the 1883 ‘No Cent’ Liberty and 1913P ‘Buffalo On Mound’ varieties that grade - in my opinion - Very Good to Fine condition.  However, you should view the photos closely, compare my coin against others on Ebay, and then form your own opinion as to grade and value!  Note that the “I” in LIBERTY is actually visible on the 1883 coin!  The two coins Trend at $24.00 in Very-Good condition in the March-2024 issue of Coin World Magazine!
The Liberty Nickel - minted from 1883 thru1912 - was designed by then Chief Mint Engraver Charles Barber.  The very first coins minted of this type did not include the word “CENTS” on their reverse, and the story goes that some criminally-minded persons gold-plated these ‘no-cent’ coins and passed them off as $5 gold coinage!
The so-called Indian Head/Buffalo nickel was designed by sculptor James Earl Frasier (his “F” initial located below the date) and it was coined from 1913 to 1938.  He used three Native Americans to model for the obverse:  Iron Tail (Sioux), Big Tree (Kiowa) and Two Moons (Cheyenne).  The reverse actually shows an American bison rather than a buffalo!
The very first 1913 nickels placed the ‘buffalo’ standing on a mound with “FIVE CENTS” above rim level.  It was soon realized that the denomination would quickly wear-off, so new dies were prepared with the Buffalo standing on a flat plain with “FIVE CENTS” recessed below rim level.  The first coins with the new reverse modifications were struck on May 10, 1913.
Buyer pays $.64 shipping.  The coin will be in a flip and inside a normal 3.625”x6.5” envelope via Ebay’s economy service which includes a tracking number.   Please note - Sorry, but shipping will not be combined on multiple purchases since multiple lots do cause a higher shipping/postage cost.  Besides, I feel my items are already good buys!
