A watercolour painting by listed artist David Wood (1933-1996). One of a small collection by this artist I am listing for sale.
A very unusual portait of a lady jester, dressed in a deep and white costume with the traditional belled hood she is pictured in a stretching pose.
Signed in full lower right.
The painting is in excellent condition and is well presented with a complementary coloured card mount within a wooden frame. Both mount and frame are in excellent condition.
Measures 37 x 44cm including the frame, the painting only is 20 x 28cm.

David Wood was a painter and printmaker, from a family of artists. He was born in Scotland and studied at the Edinburgh College of Art, Sir John Cass College and the Slade School of Fine Art. He lived for most of life in East Anglia and in Dedham, Essex and became a member of Colchester Art Society and Ipswich Art Society and was also involved in the Gainsborough's House Print Workshop in Sudbury. He has a lengthy exhibition record including the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Marine Artists, United Artists and also many prestigious regional galleries such as the Meyer Gallery and the Chapell Gallery.
Movement and colour are key factors in his work which usually includes figures. Examples are held in many municipal collections in the UK and overseas and there are a number of auction records.
