BIOGRAPHY

WOLFGANG VON TRIPS d1961. German F1 racing driver active between 1956-61 who participated in 29 Grand Prix / scoring 56 points with 2 wins in the 1961 British & Dutch GP's. At the 1961 Italian Grand Prix on 10th September Von Trips was tightly locked in the battle for the Formula One World Drivers' Championship that year with his teammate Phil Hill. On the second lap of the race at Monza the 33 year old's Ferrari (collided with Jim Clark's Lotus) approaching what is now Curva Alboreto. His F156 became airborne and crashed into a side barrier fatally throwing him from his car and sadly killing fifteen spectators

CERTIFICATION & PROVENANCE

From the wonderful 1950-60s motorsports autograph book of Nick H collected mostly at Aintree and Oulton Park during this period. Includes a typed letter from him detailing the fuller history. This autograph was likely obtained at the British Grand Prix at Aintree Circuit on July 15th 1961. Von Trips won the race in his Ferrari beating Phil Hill into second place.
