This 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible is a beautiful example of the final year Eldorado Convertible and is loaded with options! Little changed on the 1976 Eldorado from the previous year but 1976 would mark the end of an era for the luxury GM marque. Amongst those changes was a new-look grille and relocation of the Cadillac script emblem at the nose. The headlight design and marker light layout was also slight modified though the Eldorado retained a similar look from the previous edition. In the rear, Cadillac refined the style a bit but largely left the general silhouette untouched except for a few minor trim updates and a minor taillight redesign. Nonetheless, 1976 was a noteworthy year in the history of Cadillac since the '76 Eldorado was announced to be that last convertible that the GM marque would produce; that is, until Cadillac would ultimately introduce the Allante in 1987. Even the marketing materials in 1976 for Cadillac deemed the '76 Eldo Convertible to be the "last convertible to be built in America." However, given the litigious nature of American society that claim would eventually lead to an unsuccessful lawsuit by Cadillac buyers, when the 1982 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible was released. On Wednesday April 21, 1976, the last Eldorado Convertible rolled off Cadillac's production line. In fact, this was such a newsworthy story that the major news outlets broadcasted Cadillac Division GM Edward C. Kennard and Manufacturing Manager Bud Brawner actually driving that particular car off the production line, complete with a Michigan vanity plate reading "Last." Given Cadillac advertised the '76 Eldorado as being the "Last Convertible," Cadillac's convertible production actually rose in 1976 to 14,000 units, over 5,000 more than the previous year Eldorado. This particular example comes to us from an east coast collector who took great car of this luxury convertible while under their stewardship. Powering this '76 Eldorado is a 500 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 190 horsepower when new. The Cadillac 500 V8 is backed by an Automatic Transmission that makes this classic convertible a fantastic car to take on a cruise. The monster 500 V8 sends power to the front wheels on this front wheel drive Cadillac. Being that this 1976 Eldorado was a top-of-the-line model for Cadillac, it comes absolutely loaded with options! With power steering, squeezing this land yacht in and out of a tight space at the local car show or drive in is a total breeze. To make this even easier dual outside chrome adjustable mirrors give you a better idea of how close you are to the car next door. Bringing this 5,000+ pound Convertible to a complete stop is also made much easier thanks to the 4 wheel power disc brakes setup. The black cloth convertible top is in wonderful condition as well and it goes up and down with the simple flick of a switch. When in the down position, the convertible top tucks neatly below a color-matched parade boot. Riding on a set of whitewall radial tires with full wheel discs, this 1976 Eldorado has a classy look and even better ride while cruising down the road. Speaking of cruise control this '76 Cadillac convertible comes equipped with Cruise Control which is another welcome creature comfort on any car. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this 1976 Eldorado looks great and elevates the gorgeous exterior appearance of this Cadillac. The body has been refinished in an eye-catching Cardinal Red paint that completes the exterior look of the car. The interior of this 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible is absolutely stunning! The front and rear seats have been correctly upholstered in beautiful black leather. The matching door panels with woodgrain inserts, black carpeting, padded dash with woodgrain inserts, and steering wheel all appear be in their stock configuration as well and appear to be in fantastic condition. The interior is also completely loaded with options! The steering wheel is mounted on a tilt steering column which makes for a much more comfortable car to drive. The front seats are also power adjustable which also improves the driver's comfort. You'll be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer days since this '76 Eldorado comes equipped with factory air conditioning. This 1976 Cadillac convertible also comes outfitted with power door locks which is another creature comfort not typically found on classic cars. The entertainment system has been tastefully upgraded with later model speakers and an AM/FM/CD head unit. This Cadillac even comes equipped with auto-dimming headlights which dates back on Cadillacs from the 50s. The "space age" instrument cluster is outfitted a 100 MPH speedometer, fuel gauge and clock that completes the interior of this convertible Whether you're buying your first classic car or you're adding to an existing collection of Cadillac convertibles, this 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible would make an excellent choice.
