"Celandine - the herb of health" (Chelidonium majus L.) is well studied in pharmacological terms.

Celandine is a typical ruderal plant that grows near our homes and blooms as long as our body needs it. Ancient healers lovingly called it the "Gift of Heaven" and believed in its all-pervading power.

Celandine herb contains many active substances: essential oil, organic and phenylcarboxylic acids, flavonoids and saponins, tannins, vitamins. But celandine's main wealth is its alkaloids, more than 20 of them. The most important of them are sanguinarine and chelerythrin, which are responsible for the harmful effects on microorganisms, including viruses and protozoa.

Ingredients: celandine herb.

Numerous studies confirm that celandine-based preparations are effective for the treatment of purulent wounds and trophic ulcers, skin and mucous membrane diseases, eczema, chronic sinusitis, cervical erosion, as well as fungal diseases, trichomoniasis.

Sanguinarine is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, and chelerythrine has an inhibitory effect on the central nervous system.

Helidonin has algesic (pain), sedative, and spasmolytic effects. The spasmolytic effect is especially noticeable when it affects the smooth muscles of the organs, which makes it possible to use celandine in the treatment of bronchial asthma. Among the alkaloids, chelidonin has the greatest breadth of therapeutic effects. Its effect on the body is comparable to papaverine.

The alkaloid berberine has a choleretic (cholecystokinetic) effect. Given its choleretic-cholecystokinetic (choleretic), sedative, antispasmodic properties, celandine is prescribed in case of spastic abdominal pain, impaired spasticity of the biliary tract and gallbladder.

All this powerful arsenal, if used correctly, can bring significant benefits not only in the fight against warts and acne, but also in solving more serious problems.

Importance for the body

Due to its antimicrobial activity, celandine inhibits the development of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast-like Candida, micellar fungi, and pathogenic protozoa.

The active alkaloids homochylidonin and chelerythrin of celandine exhibit bacteriostatic properties against Staphylococcus aureus, inhibit the development of mycobacteria. In the in vivo and in vitro experiments, the inhibitory effect of celandine on strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonial, Candida albicans, Epidermoph. flaccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Aspergillus fumigat, Trichophyton rubrum.

The activity of celandine against viruses, its ability to inhibit herpes virus, encephalomyelitis due to blocking the synthesis of virus envelope proteins is noted.

The antifungal effectiveness of celandine is equivalent to that of nitrofungin, and its antibiotic activity is not inferior to that of levomycin.

Celandine preparations help to increase the level of hemoglobin, red blood cells and leukocytes in the blood, and have antiarrhythmic activity.

In dermatology, celandine is used against mycotic microbial eczema, atopic dermatitis, paratraumatic eczema, psoriasis, initial forms of discoid red vesicle, and seborrhea of the scalp. In the case of psoriasis, the clinical effect of celandine is due to its ability to inhibit mitosis.
