I have
collected coins since 1959, and the so-called “Buffalo Nickel” was always a
favorite of mine. Due to age and health,
I’ve decided it’s time for my coins to find a new home/caretaker!
The
so-called Indian/Buffalo nickel was designed by sculptor James Earl Frasier
(his “F” initial appears below the date), and it was coined from 1913 to early
1938. He used three Native Americans to
model for the obverse: Iron Tail
(Sioux), Big Tree (Kiowa) and Two Moons (Cheyenne). The reverse actually shows an American Bison
rather than a buffalo! These coins are
often considered our “Most American Coin”!
