This Listing is for ONE NEW Sheet of 20 Navajo Jewelry 2¢ Stamps from 2007

Mint. MNH. No flaws. From a Smoke-free and Pet-free Environment.

The U.S. Postal Service originally issued this 2¢ Navajo Jewelry pane of 20 self-adhesive stamps on August 20, 2004 in Indianapolis, IN. It's the fifth in the American Design Series of low value definitive stamps (depicting Early American decorative arts masterpieces). The design is from a painting by Lou Nolan of McLean, VAfeaturing a Navajo silver and turquoise necklace with sand-cast squash blossoms set with polished blue turquoise nuggets.

Nolan based his painting on a photograph by Peter T. Furst. The necklace itself belongs to a private collector and is believed to have been made sometime during the 1940s or 1950s. The Navajo Indians began silversmithing in the mid-1800s. The silver and turquoise squash blossom necklace on this stamp is a traditional Navajo motif called nazhah, which means “curve.”
