A PAIR OF VINTAGE MID CENTURY PAUL SECON - LUCITE PENDANT LAMP SHADES -

RETRO - GEOMETRIC CLASSIC

This is an opportunity to purchase a pair of vintage mid-century lamp

shades designed by Paul Secon and manufactured by exSomp a German company

founded in 1948 and who are still in existence today, photographs of the lamp

shades sent by me to Sompex have confirmed they are a Paul Secon design and

appeared in their catalogue back in the 1970’s.

I believe at this time the lamp shade design was known as a spider web or

geometric pedant lamp shade, the materials used in its construction were Lucite

which is a clear acrylic plastic also known as Perspex or Plexiglas. In

addition to these materials thin Nylon thread similar to fishing line was also

used and interlaced around the pieces of Lucite to form a complex design.

As you can see from the attached photographs each lamp shade is

identical and the segments making up the shade are of a light smokey brown colour

with clear thin nylon thread, segments of the lamp shade are transparent and are

a key feature of the design. Although the original pendant lamp shades would have been used as a ceiling light, they could also be used as a floor/table lamp.

Note: Although the lamp shades are an identical pair, I would be happy to sell them separately for the quoted price per unit of £275 pounds including free postage.

Condition: The two lamp shades are used but in “Very Good Condition” there are no missing segments to each of the

pieces and the nylon thread is all original intact and taut. If you look very

closely on top of each shade there are some very light scratches from attaching

it to a light fitting and cleaning which are obviously age related, however

there is no damage cracks or broken nylon thread.
