Antique 1890's Stevens & Williams, England Pair of Glass Goblets w. Horse Rider Miniatures Encased in the Stem

  • For your consideration is a stunning pair of tall crystal glass goblets
  • Hand blown raised form with intricate design, featuring a glass ball on the stem in which a masterfully elaborated glass figurine is displayed
  • The colorful little sculptures depict galloping horse riders, possibly a part of equestrian or hunting themed series
  • A rare and superlative example of the late-nineteenth/very early twentieth-century English glass, made by Stevens and Williams
  • One of the best establishments of the glorious British Stourbridge decorative art glass industry was the company created by the partnership of William Stevens and Samuel Cox Williams in 1847. Producing primary medical and apothecary glass at the beginning, they promptly became well known for creating quality decorative glass, using techniques such as cameo, engraving, acid etching, enameling, cutting and intaglio. In 1864 Samuel's son Joseph Williams took over the business, and in 1880-1882 Frederick Carder and John Northwood joined as a designer and artistic director respectively.
