Nathan Margolis Studio Hand Made Federal Mahogany Snake Foot Candlestand Tilt-Top Table


  • For your consideration is a very attractive tilt-top side table aka candle stand or lamp table
  • Well figured oblong top with patterned sides
  • A slender central column terminating in elegant tripod legs known as snake legs
  • Each leg is hand dovetailed into the center turning
  • The table is an exact vintage copy of a period American 18th century Federal  candlestand
  • Hand made of highest quality flame mahogany
  • Signed with a rectangular stamp on the underside, as pictured
  • The Lithuania born Nathan Margolis opened the Margolis furniture store in 1894 in Hartford CT, soon becoming "the best cabinet maker in America" as dubbed by Wallace Nutting. The very skilled craftsmen faithfully reproduced the finest examples of period 18th and early 19th century American furniture designed for their wealthy clients. Commissions from state and federal authorities ensued, including from the residence of The President of USA. Many of their pieces are still on display in The White House, Washington, D.C. The firm was in operation during the early and mid 20th century.

  • Measurements: Approx. 22" x 22" the top; 27" high when opened, and 40" high when closed
  • Weighs about 9 lbs. 10 oz.

  • Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Wonderful warm and smooth patina. Minor wear, just a few insignificant scratches at the top, commensurate with age and use. All original.
