  • Masterly rendered image, depicting a street in a small North African/South Spanish town
  • A woman in traditional attire, a kid and a dog are the protagonists in this quotidian life scene
  • Signed lower right "Jardines . Medina"
  • Jose Maria Jardines (Cadiz, 1862-1914) was an established Spanish portrait, landscape and genre scenes painter from the late 19th and early 20th century
  • The term "Medina" is colloquially known to describe the Old Native Quarter of a North African City. Therefore, the scene depicts a North African or South Spanish (Andalusian) town, with past related to the Muslim conquest in the early Middle Ages  
  • It comes from a New York estate, and is reported as originally purchased in the 1930's from an antiques dealer in Spain 
  • Professionally mounted in embossed wooden frame
  • Framing studio label from 1992 remains attached
  • Circa late 1800's, Spanish School
  • All original


  • Measurements: Approx. 20" x 14.25" framed; 17.75" x 12" the scene
  • Weighs about 2 lbs.

  • Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Minor loss to the varnish and some abrasions, as pictured. Accumulated dirt and accretions. Definitely would benefit from a professional cleaning in order to brighten the original colors. All original.
