Vtg 1955 Photograph of two children Quassiarsuk, Greenland

The photograph itself measures about 12 1/4" x 16". It is in a mat which is altogether wrapped in plastic. The mat outer measurements are 15 3/4" x 19 3/4".

The photograph has hand-written on the back, "Kaqsiarsuk, 10 aug 1955". It was matted and framed at some point, and there's a label taped to the back of the frame backing, "GREENLAND Two children Quassiarsuk Aug.10 1955 foto Ab Geelhoed Netherlands".

The frame does not have glass and is not high-end or original, so I took the label off and put it on the plastic which is wrapped around the matted photograph. I did not take the plastic off, so my pictures don't do the photograph justice in its detail since the plastic is covering it. The brownish haze is my reflection.

Really a stunning, beautiful photo!

Wikipedia: Qassiarsuk is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality, in southern Greenland. Its population was 39 in 2020.[2] Qassiarsuk is part of the Kujataa World Heritage Site due to its historical importance as the homestead of Erik the Red and its unique testimony to Greenlandic farming. Brattahlíð, often anglicised as Brattahlid, was Erik the Red's estate in the Eastern Settlement Viking Colony he established in south-western Greenland toward the end of the 10th century. The present settlement of Qassiarsuk, approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) southwest from the Narsarsuaq settlement, is now located in its place. The site is located about 96 km (60 mi) from the ocean, at the head of the Tunulliarfik Fjord, and hence sheltered from ocean storms. Erik and his descendants lived there until about the mid-15th century. The name Brattahlíð means "the steep slope".
