Size: The sheet (including the margins) measures approximately 610mm x 495mm (24 inches x 19 1/4 inches). Title and plate number printed verso, as published; otherwise blank.

Description: A large, finely engraved, detailed pair of maps on one sheet of North West Africa and Central Africa in the late 19th century. The hydrography is printed in blue ink with further original outline colour added by hand.

Cartographer / Engraver: A.K. Johnston, with additions & corrections by T.B. Johnston.

Provenance: 'Royal Atlas of Modern Geography exhibiting in a series of entirely original and authentic maps, the present condition of geographical discovery and research in the several Countries, Empires, and States of the World', W. & A.K. Johnston, Edinburgh and London, 1886.

Condition: Very good condition. Light age toning / handling marks. 2.5cm closed tear at the right side of the centrefold, not affecting the printed area.  Attractive original colour. Centrefold as published. Please study all the photographs carefully to fully appreciate the condition.
