Please note that I will be separately listing two similar birdseye maple frames today, though they are different sizes.

This is an antique 19th century birdseye maple frame with a lemon gold gilt liner.

I believe this dates from the mid 19th century, circa 1840s or 1850s.

The overall frame measures 15 inches x 13 inches (38.1 cm x 33 cm). The back opening size measures 12 1/2 inches x 10 1/2 inches (31.7 cm x 26.6 cm). The molding width including the liner measures 2 inches (5.1 cm).

The frame is made of a base wood and is covered in birds eye maple veneer. The liner is very attractive in that it is stepped, as opposed to being flat. The liner on this frame is attached with old nails I believe. It has its original hanging ring on top.

There is barely any loss to the veneer. Just a tiny spot here and there. There are a couple of small nicks to the liner in the upper right corner. There are two holes on the outer side of one of the short pieces of molding and two on one of the long pieces of molding. I’m wondering if there were some type of hanging hooks there originally, though they are now gone. Not a big deal though. There is a small blemish to the veneer on the long left side piece of molding near the top. There are the usual dark spots and age related stress marks to the wood, which give it a beautiful patina.

It has a piece of glass, but it’s definitely not original.

It would be great for an old oil painting, drawing, folk art work, sampler, fraktur, silhouette, etc.

It weighs 1 lb. 13 1/2 oz. (836 g).

It has what I always look for in frames, that wonderful old world look!
