1957 Press Photo Sidler Parking Device by Archie Butterworth, Surrey England
This is an original press photo. Credit - United Press and NEA Archie Butterworth of Frimley Green, Surrey, England, has invented a device for parking cars called the "Sidler". To park a car equipped with the invention, the driver steers the front end into the curb. At the press of a dashboard button, a hydraulic undercarriage, equipped with two revolving rubber disks, is lowered, raising the rear wheels from the ground. Powered by the car's transmission, the disks spin, moving the rear-end sideways into the parking space. Low gear swings the rear one way, and reverse the other.Photo measures 9.25 x 7inches.
