Addendum. Prior to this week, the bike was last ridden in 2008 (for its MOT). I asked the mechanic what he thought, & he told me the engine sounded good, with no issues to worry about. The bottom end has never been apart, but has had a rebore. It has had the occasional start up in the intervening years, without any trouble. Just in case the photos aren’t clear enough to show the shortcomings, & to mention the ones not visible, I would like to add; The seat cover has several strips of duct tape. The side panels are both damaged. The neutral light doesn’t work (could just be the bulb). There are a couple of missing rear wheel spokes (but the wheel runs true). The horn issues a pathetic sound (& only when the lights are switched on). The speedometer doesn’t work. The battery will undoubtedly be dead There’s only one key, but it does operate all three locks. The fork stanchions are rust & pit free.
Just to add the neutral light was just the bulb, there was only one missing spoke, & the inside of the tank is rust free.
Speedo seems work fine when using a drill to to the inner speedometer cable.
