Born in Philadelphia to Frank Rush and Margaret (Custer) Whiteside, G. Morris Whiteside would become best known as a Wilmington, DE, architect. After graduating from Central High School, he received a Certificate of Proficiency from the University of Pennsylvania in 1905 and then enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1905 to 1906. After winning a medal in the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design, he journeyed to the American Academy in Rome to study in 1907. His office experience was gained in Philadelphia with architects William C.
