RARE AFRICANA -

West Africa: Gold Coast and Kumasi (modern-day Ghana) - an excellent collection of 25 [twenty-five] original vintage photographs by Justus Holm and N. T. Clerk, including an image of Prince Edward the Prince of Wales on tour in 1925, and the rest from the same period.

A total of 25 original b/w photographs. Gelatin silver. The majority with photographers' wetstamps on rear: x 18 with 'Justus A. C. Holm / Art Photographer / Accra, Gold Coast' and x 2 with 'N. T. Clerk / Art Photographer / Value & Service Studio / Kumasi', and x 5 blank on verso but probably by Holm. Contained loosely within a glassine pouch with Holm's printed details. Size: each approx. 20cm x 15cm (a couple a fraction smaller).

Very Good condition. Generally well preserved. Very minor edge-wear. Minimal curvature to paper. Silvering to a couple of photographs. Light scattered age-toning and fading in a few cases. Glassine pouch torn and frayed. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, and view gallery images closely.

This collection of original vintage photographs came from the private collection of a colonial official who worked in Ashanti and the Gold Coast in the 1920s. They are vintage and wholly original to that period. A total of 18 bear the wetstamp of Gold Coast photographer Justus Holm, two of Kumasi photographer N. T. Clerk, and 5 with blank versos but probably by Holm.

One of the images shows the Prince of Wales with group during his tour of the Gold Coast in 1925.
